Before & After

The transformation is complete! At least, 97% complete. There are definitely things we will want to tweak and work on (who doesn’t love a good project?!), but The Inn has transformed into a beautiful property. From this past September until May, we worked tirelessly to renovate, revamp, and rejuvenate the interiors and exteriors of the historic home. The style we decided to go for is a blend of modern, coastal and luxury. Let’s take a walk through time and explore some before and after photos that show how far The Inn has come in the past eight months!

INTERIOR TRANSFORMATION

First things first, let’s talk about how to prepare a space for renovation. The biggest hurdle we had to overcome in order to begin our interior renovations was removing almost all of the furnishings, decor, and ‘stuff’. The Inn was purchased fully-furnished, so everything you see in the before pictures was on-site when we began working. It took about two months to completely clear out the home of the items we didn’t want to keep. Between an estate sale, selling items individually on Facebook Marketplace, and donations, we let go of 85% of the original home furnishings. This helped to clear the spaces, plan exactly how we wanted the interiors to look, and give us room to breathe new life into The Inn. See the photos below for an idea of what all was occupying the house, and the center photo from our estate sale (the entire first floor was filled with items!).

From the items we held onto, there were a few pieces that really felt special and unique and lead our design. It all started with our inspiration piece, the honey bee pillow. The honey bee pillow was originally found in one of the third floor guest rooms, but we knew it needed a bigger moment in the spotlight. The color is the perfect shade of golden yellow, with rich and deep tones we used throughout The Inn as a pop of color. This golden yellow hue also works beautifully with our other main colors: midnight blue, grey, cream, and brass.

Once we decided on our color palette, it was time to head to Sherwin Williams and grab some swatches. Did you know how many shades of golden yellow exist? Neither did we. Cut the Mustard (SW 6834) was the winning shade, and we painted the front door this color, and also the antique claw-foot tub on the third floor. We also settled on Ivory Lace (SW 7013), a creamier white, for the interior walls, and Pure White (SW 7005) for all the trim and original wood moulding.

Each and every space (inside and out!) received a fresh coat of paint. This is perhaps the easiest way to really change the feeling of a room, and we feel that the new colors brightened the space and brought a touch of modernity and cohesion.

Above, the front door transformation, includes the new exterior paint colors, brass light fixtures and door hardware, AZEK decking, porch eaves and soffit.

Going through these photos brings us back to the beginning, and we can see how far The Inn has come since September 2020. Each space has a modern, luxurious vibe while still exuding a feeling of comfort. We think we hit the nail on the head with this design and hope our guests will enjoy the spaces as much as we do. Which guest room glow-up do you think is the most transformative?

Check the blog next week for part two of our before and after story, which will feature the exterior transformation of the property. Spoiler alert, the outside metamorphosis is just as spectacular as The Inn’s interior changes!
