why are we gluten free?

The Inn Berlin is a completely gluten free bed and breakfast, dining establishment, and event venue.

The choice to be 100% gluten free was simple for us, as our owner and innkeeper has Celiac Disease. This autoimmune disease has no cure, and is currently only treatable with a strict gluten free diet. Celiac Disease can be difficult to live with because of the constant vigilance needed to maintain a gluten free diet, and any gluten ingested will cause internal damage and a host of uncomfortable and even life threatening symptoms. The Inn Berlin wants to eliminate the stress and fear that comes along with traveling and dining out, and we are honored to offer a safe-haven to our Celiac guests and their families.

While many restaurants and dining establishments offer “gluten free” menus and options, the majority are not actually Celiac-safe because of cross contamination. Our kitchen is stocked with only the best ingredients, which are all hand-selected to be sure they are 100% gluten free and 100% delicious. This way, we eliminate the chance for cross contact as nothing containing gluten is allowed.

how will this affect me?

Chances are, you won’t even notice that you are eating gluten free.

We’ve been doing this for over 15 years and have found the absolute best gluten free ingredients to replace those pesky gluten ones. Our owners have traveled extensively, researching and testing all of the gluten free options available and selecting only the finest offerings to share with our guests.

But, if you happen to have Celiac Disease or NCGS or any gluten sensitivity, this will affect you greatly. You will be able to dine freely, without the typical anxiety and stress that accompanies a meal out. You will be able to travel to the Eastern Shore and stay somewhere that cares about your health and well-being. If you want to have a 100% gluten free wedding or event, we will make it happen and your guests will be entirely impressed with the cuisine, ambiance, and experience.

We take allergies and dietary restrictions very seriously and know that transparency, communication and good service are necessary to take care of all our guests. Our food allergy protocol was created to make sure our guests know exactly what ingredients are in each dish, and outlines any points where cross-contact could be an issue. Please know that while we offer a dedicated gluten free kitchen, other allergens could be present at any time.
